Position Title: PT Youth Services Librarian (Librarian 1)
Location: Hoboken, New Jersey
Schedule: Part time position (25 hours) including days, evenings and weekend hours as needed.
Salary: $36.16/hour
Benefits include paid holidays & sick leave, and potential eligibility for enrollment in the DCRP (Defined Contribution Retirement Program).

About the Position:
Hoboken Public Library seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic Youth Services Librarian to join its Youth Services team. This person will report directly to the Youth Services Manager. The ideal candidate will have a passion for children’s and young adult literature; familiarity with current library technologies; the ability to perform both independently and as a team member; experience in planning and conducting children’s programming; an energetic approach to outreach to schools, daycares and community partners; excellent communication skills; enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility and a sense of humor.
Essential job duties:
- Develop partnerships and strengthen relationships with school administrators, educators, school media specialists, as well as home school organizations, co-ops, and families.
- Design and implement creative youth programming to facilitate a love of reading and learning, including: story times for children ages birth-six years as well as crafts and other activities for children of all ages.
- Travel to schools, community touch-points, and all Library locations.
- Provide outstanding customer service, reference, and readers’ advisory to all library customers.
- Attend and participate in professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; keeps current with professional literature; attends and participates in staff meeting discussions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution and New Jersey State Librarian Certification.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Experience working with youth in a public library, school or other group setting.
- Demonstrable instructional experience and strong public speaking skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and commitment to public service.
- Ability to work with a diverse population in an urban setting.
- Broad knowledge of and ability to use a wide range of library materials and resources, including but not limited to research databases, digital content platforms and social media.
- Superior communication skills with proven success in reaching educators, students and external and internal customers.
- Excellent organizational skills and project management knowledge and ability.
- Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
- Strong teamwork skills, including flexibility to fill in during scheduling emergencies and vacation periods.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, including ability to work independently and to handle unexpected situations.

Hourly rate is $36.16/hour
