New Jersey Makers Day receives grant from Investors Foundation to increase equitable hands-on STEM learning opportunities throughout New Jersey

The New Jersey Makers Day (NJMD) non-profit organization received a $1,000 grant from Investors Foundation. The grant will helped further NJMD’s mission of inspiring and activating libraries and other educational and community organizations host virtual STEM-based learning and events celebrating maker culture across the state on March 19-20, 2021.

New for 2021, a free statewide virtual event, NJMD LIVE! was broadcasted March 19th & 20th on the New Jersey Makers Day website at https://njmakersday.org as well as New Jersey Makers Day Facebook and YouTube channels. The event featured innovative speakers and hand-on demonstrations of STEM projects with participants following along making projects using easily obtained materials will be featured.

Kate Jaggers, President of New Jersey Makers Day, states, “The Investors Bank grant is vital to funding professional development opportunities and NJMD project grants for locations where there is unmet need. Our organization’s purpose is to provide access and opportunity to learning and exploring STEM-based opportunities for all ages in libraries and other trusted community places, as well as bringing local community STEM practitioners and resources together to highlight their work through hands-on demonstrations and activities.”

Among other things, New Jersey Makers Day creates and supports family learning where all ages can engage in hands-on experiences in STEM together, building positive relationships through the prism of science and technology, which studies have shown contributes to children’s positive attitudes toward these fields and increases their likelihood of pursuing enhanced career options later on.
